Meet Our Pastors: Cindy and Doug Williams

Rev. Cindy Williams
In the summer of 2008 Laguna Beach United Methodist Church greeted the arrival of our new co-pastors, Cindy and Doug Williams.
Cindy was born and raised in Anaheim, CA where her family attended the Anaheim United Methodist Church. Her parents continue to be members there. Her seminary education is from the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She was ordained as a Deacon in 1983 and as an Elder in 1987. In 1988 she returned to Southern California and was appointed Pastor of the Venice United Methodist Church. She was there for four years until 1992 when she and Doug were appointed as Co-Pastors of University UMC in Irvine. She enjoys preaching and teaching and is passionate about helping people discover God’s calling. In her spare time she loves to read, cook, and scrapbook.
Doug grew up in San Diego where his family was active in St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. His parents continue to be active members. He also attended Perkins School of Theology. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1987 and an Elder in 1990. In 1988 when they came back from Texas he was appointed as Associate Pastor at Westwood UMC and in 1992 they went to University UMC as Co-Pastors. For the past 14 years he has been involved with Families Forward, and organization that provides transitional housing for the homeless families. He also enjoys teaching and preaching. He finds it a privilege to be involved in people’s lives at some of the most intimate and personal times. He enjoys reading, listening to jazz music, photography, and working on projects around the house.
Cindy and Doug were married in 1983 and are the proud parents of two children, Kelsey and Trent. Kelsey is a sophomore at Irvine High School where she plays on the Girl’s Water Polo Team. Trent is in the 7th grade where he is involved in the Concert Band and the Musical Theater program. He also plays water polo.
